New New GMC Sierra
A message to owners of non-General Motors pickups: If you're considering the purchase of a new pickup, you would be doing yourself a disservice not to take a serious look at the New GMC Sierra 1500. It impresses from its even ride, to its nimble handling, to its wide assortment of payload capacities and powertrains. And the array doesn't stop with that: The Sierra 1500 comes in regular-, extended- and crew-cab versions, with short and long cargo beds and wheelbases, as well as a choice of rear- or four-wheel-drive and, last but not least, a full-blown ultra-luxury model, the Denali. The Sierra 1500's standard quot;Work Truck" configuration engine is a 195-hp 4.3-liter V6 engine. From there, you can select a 4.8-, 5.3- or 6.2-liter V8, which can pump out 302-, 315- and 403-hp, respectively. Four- and six-speed automatic transmissions are offered. The Sierra 1500's maximum tow rating tops 10,000 pounds when properly equipped, which will do the job when it comes to all but the largest boats and trailers.
Five Star Frontal and Side Crash Test Rating
Highest possible front and side-impact ratings 2009 & 2010 Sierra 1500
Five-star rating is for the driver and front passenger seating positions in the frontal crash test and for the front and rear seating positions in the side-impact crash test. Side-impact crash test rating is for models tested with and without optional Head Curtain side-impact air bags (SABs). Government star ratings are part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA's) New Car Assessment Program (www.safercar.gov).

VORTEC 6.2L Gen IV V-8 (L9H) TRUCK ENGINE
The 6.2.L is the most powerful of GM's Gen IV Vortec V-8s; indeed, it is the most powerful small-block truck engine ever,
with the most torque. It delivers new levels of refinement to go with brute strength, and industry exclusive technologies
such as cam-in-block variable valve timing.
Overview
When vehicle development teams demanded class-leading performance for full-size luxury utility vehicles, GM Powertrain
delivered the all-new Vortec 6.2L V-8. The 6.2L applies high-performance features developed for the LS2 and LS7 Corvette engines,
with advanced technologies like cam-in-block variable valve timing.
In short, the Vortec 6.2L is the most powerful small-block truck V-8 in history, yet it delivers the smooth, quiet operation, balanced performance and drivability befitting premium brands. It's also one in the most efficient line of truck V-8s in GM history.
The latest Vortec V-8s were developed to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions. Compared to the typical truck engine a decade ago-much less the original small block in 1955-the new Vortec V-8s generate 90 percent fewer exhaust and evaporative emissions. And they should last longer than any of their predecessors, with nothing more than routine maintenance (which is limited to oil changes for the first 100,000 miles). The new Vortecs have undergone the toughest, most comprehensive validation in five decades of small-block development, in laboratories and through road-testing in extreme climates.
The Vortec 6.2L has been dyno tested to the equivalent of 150,000 miles.
The small-block not only lives-it thrives, with a balance of performance, features, economy, durability and a range of choices the competition can't match.
Better V-8 Fuel Economy
Than any other competitor
Sierra XFE models use a combination of mechanical, aerodynamic and mass-reduction enhancements, including the aluminum block Vortec 5.3L V-8 with AFM — resulting in an EPA — estimated 22 highway mpg. Still, the XFE powertrain provides a max trailer rating of 7000 pounds.
Bluetooth
Available Bluetooth integration equals hands-free calling. Steering-wheel controls lets you dial by voice and then listen to calls through Sierra's audio system.

Active Fuel Management
Active Fuel Management technology uses only 4 cylinders in less demanding driving conditions while seamlessly shifting to 8 cylinders when necessary.
With this advanced technology, all eight cylinders operate during starting, idling and torque-intensive tasks like accelerating, hauling heavy loads or towing. but in everyday driving, once Sierra has reached cruising speed, AFM can temporarily deactivate four of the eight cylinders. a sophisticated Engine control Module (ECM) continuously measures load conditions, including throttle input. under light loads, it automatically closes select intake and exhaust valves and cuts fuel delivery for half of the cylinders. When the driver demands brisk acceleration or full torque to move a load, the EcM activates all cylinders — within 20 milliseconds — so full V-8 power is always right there, on tap. transitions are virtually indiscernible to most drivers. AFM helps Sierra XFE models offer the best conventional engine fuel economy in its class.
