Sierra heavy-duty pickups offer the power and performance GMC is famous for—on a larger scale. With an extraordinary 660 lb-ft of torque, the optional Duramax Diesel 6.6L V-8 Turbo engine makes the 3500HD the most powerful V-8 one-ton.2 It also features a GCWR of up to 23,500 lbs.

The Duramax V-8 is paired with the Allison 1000 6-speed automatic transmission (shown at right). It allows you to activate Tow/ Haul mode simply by pressing a button at the end of the shift lever. In addition to grade braking, the Allison 1000 adds cruise braking. If you’ve set the cruise control, it detects when you’re accelerating downhill and automatically downshifts. And with tap-shifting, you can manually select upshifts and downshifts.

THE HEAVY-DUTY POWERTRAINS
For gasoline users, the standard Vortec 6.0L V-8 uses an advanced variable-valve-timing system to shape power curves to the job. With models that have less than a 10,000-lb GVWR, it is	Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) of 18,500 lbs. Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD pickups with the standard Vortec 6.0L V-8 feature the Hydra-Matic	of advanced features, including driver-selectable Tow / Haul mode to reduce excessive shifting when towing or hauling a heavy load. Engine grade braking helps you maintain control on downhills.
